No Rules heading off to canterA sharp frost this morning and it's pretty cold. You have got to keep moving or you seize up! We have been doing fast work on the Al Bahathri this morning and all went well. It's amazing how good these all weather surfaces are if they are maintained properly and put in right in the first place. I can never quite understand why the racecourse ones tend to break down and change, as ours which get much more use are in great condition. Maybe it's a different type or mix.
Millionaires Row in the main yardOur two runners yesterday both ran creditably at Lingfield both fillies will keep on improving and I am sure there races to be won with both of them. Our runner today, Locum, has made big headlines in the Racing Post which I always think is the kiss of death but he certainly did run well last time on the surface and must have a chance if in the right mood of getting involved today.
Jennifer J Red HermesThe Irish have been doing their budget announcements and yesterday only a million euro was cut from the horse and greyhound racing boards. Today tax increases will be announced and it will be interesting to see if there is any tax on on-line and telephone betting. If there is, I hope our politicians take note and follow their example. The one thing about Ireland is that horseracing and the industry is a national sport with everybody involved including the politicians who can be seen going racing on a regular basis, very unlike ours who would never go of their own accord only if invited for a specific reason. It would be wonderful if for once our industry was taken seriously by the government and given the help it desperately needs. It would benefit all parties if it did.
