Walking in after first lotA dark stormy morning and I arrived at the yard to be greeted by a hailstorm which may have lasted only a few minutes but was very fierce with great big bits of ice. The weather forecasters are telling us that tomorrow there will be high winds and storms, so I have sent Ian off at the crack of dawn to Garrowby to bring back another batch of horses. First lot went out all wrapped up in waterproof sheets to keep them from the elements but in the event we got there and back without getting too blown about.
The Halling ex Trew Class yearlingLocum ran another sound race yesterday at Southwell to be fourth. He was never in the right place in the race at any time and I think on another day the result would have been different. The Racing Post were commenting on him being 0 from 14 on the all weather, but if you look at his record he has been second 5 times and third 4 times. His lifetime record is 41 runs and 28 times in the frame - I call that really good and his loyal owners have had plenty to shout about on many occasions. He is a great horse to own.
Plenty of political goings on yesterday both in England and Ireland with the Irish sorting out the overseas bookmakers and the exchanges. They are very much, as a nation, into horseracing as I said yesterday, and are very dependent on the employment and the tax that racing brings in. In England the BHA failed to get the Betfair exchange member off the Levy Board committee even though they are not based in this country. A strange decision but not surprising if you know how little we, as an industry, are thought of by any government. |
