Only last Saturday, Medicean was represented by a new stakes winner in Washington Singer Stakes scorer Janood while on Thursday's card at Deauville, his three-year-old daughter Via Medici landed the Group 3 Prix de Lieurey. A half-sister two minor winners, Brushing hails from an excellent Moyglare Stud family, being out of a half-sister to Group 3 winner Token Gesture, herself dam of Group 1 winner Relaxed Gesture. Another half-sister, Monumental Gesture, is the dam of high-class jumpers Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman. Brushing is the second stakes winner by Medicean bred out of a Fairy King mare following Grade 2 scorer Mr Medici. The stallion has also worked well with mares descending from Fairy King's brother Sadler's Wells, producing the likes of Bankable, Neatico and Via Medici. Seasonal Blossom has a yearling colt by Observatory and was barren to Pastoral Pursuits last year.

Ted Spread (above): finished fourth in the Great Voltigeur at York PICTURE: Edward Whitaker/racingpostpix.comTompkins predicts big run from Spread in LegerMARK TOMPKINS believes Ted Spread has a realistic chance of giving him a second victory in the Ladbrokes St Leger following the colt's performance in the Sportingbet.com Great Voltigeurat York on Tuesday.
Winner of the MBNA Chester Vase in the spring before finishing second last in the Investec Derby, Ted Spread ran on to be fourth to St Leger favourite Rewilding at York, much to the delight of his trainer.
"We were highly delighted yesterday with Ted Spread in the Voltigeur," Tompkins said on Wednesday. "The time of the race was very good and, I think, the quality of the race was the best we have seen for a while. With the Derby third [Rewilding], the Irish Derby second [Midas Touch] and the Royal Lodge winner [Joshua Tree], ahead of us we can be very satisfied, particularly on ground that was good but not his preferred softer surface." Tompkins saddled Bob's Return to take both the Voltigeur and St Leger in 1993 and can see Ted Spread showing up well at Doncaster next month provided the ground is soft. "We are now looking forward to the St Leger with definite hopes, especially if the ground is in our favour, of being in the frame," Tompkins told his website.
