''Welcome to our syndicate page. Our aim is to give you excitement and tremendous value,'' says Mark.
Syndicate open day
We have five horses syndicated at present:
Locum
5 yr. old, chesnut gelding by Dr. Fong ex Exhibitor (Royal Academy)

Locum is the perfect syndicate horse: he is sound, genuine and consistent. His owners travel everywhere to watch him run and have had so many great days, that there are too many to mention. The champion jockey, Ryan Moore, gets on especially well with him and it is always a job to explain to one certain member that he has to ride for his boss sometimes! Locum loves fast ground and a fast run race, so certain tracks suit him better than others but wherever he goes he always gives his utmost and is loved by his doting syndicate members. He also likes polos!
Fully syndicated.
Fasette
3 yr. old bay filly by Fasiliyev ex Londonnet (Catrail)

Fasette is a big, scopey filly, whose members have had to be very patient. She only ran once as a two year old, where she showed promise and that all she has done since is grow and develop. The wait was made worthwhile, when she won at Yarmouth by five lengths to the delight of all that were there. She is still improving and on her favoured galloping track and soft ground, she is sure to win more races this season.
There are 6 shares available at a cost of £500.
Captain Clint
3 yr. old bay gelding by Captain Rio ex Lake Poopo (Persian Heights)

Captain Clint is a very good-looking horse, who has needed time to grow into his frame. After a few runs at two years, he ran a sound race at Yarmouth on his re-appearance; his runs since have not been quite as good but he is not been able to run on his favoured easier ground. He will keep improving as the year goes on and has the size and scope to make a hurdler.
There are 4 shares available at a cost of £500
Post-race report from Nottingham:
Always handily placed, he took it up in the straight and either he didn't stay or we got there too soon. He looked a picture in the paddock and I know this wasn't a brilliant race but I am sure, in future, if we drop him back to a mile or hold him up longer over yesterday's trip, he will continue to be competitive in this type of race.

Comrade Bond
2 yr. old chesnut colt by Monsieur Bond ex Eurolink Cafe (Grand Lodge)

Comrade Bond is cracking colt with a great attitude and plenty of ability; he has been placed twice to date but has not yet had his favoured soft ground. He is very capable of winning his maiden but I will be going down the nursery handicap route, which I think will be right up his street. He has grown and developed during the spring and I am sure he will train on, as a three and four year old.
Fully syndicated
Post-race report from Nottingham:
He was always travelling very easily behind the favourite but disappointingly failed to quicken up in the final furlong. He has a lot of speed and a drop back to 5 furlongs will be our next consideration. He looks in fantastic condition, continues to show me his well-being at home and, I am sure, will eventually show it on the track.
Zenarinda
3 yr. old filly by Zamindar out of Tenpence (Bob Back)

Zenarinda galloping (on right)
I am delighted that so many of the Red Smokey syndicate took up the offer of having the rest of the 2010 flat season, involved in such a nice filly. Her form is very sound and the potential for a good season is there for all to see. She must have the ground on the easy side though and her trip will be around a mile.
There are 3 shares available
Post-race report from Haydock:
She was very well-behaved in all the preliminaries, which shows me she is starting to grow up. Pat jumped her out and had her in a perfect position, as we had planned but the race was run pretty slowly and developed in to a sprint in the last few furlongs. She took a bit of time to get into gear and was only rolling when the race was over. I think a little bit further will help and we are going to have some good day's out from now onwards.
Entries:
Captain Clint is entered at Carlisle on Monday, August 2nd.
Locum is entered at Ripon on Monday, August 2nd.
Captain Clint is entered at Yarmouth on Wednesday, August 4th.
Fasette is entered at Yarmouth on Wednesday, August 4th.
As one of the pioneers of multiple ownership, Mark Tompkins is continuing his successful syndicates in 2010. One-twelfth shares in horses are available and we keep things simple.
Mike Jenkins, known to us all as Jenko (pictured left), runs the syndicates for Mark and is the main point of contact for all the members. An ex-amateur jockey who also used to ride out at Flint Cottage on a regular basis, he shares his enjoyment of the sport with the members via e-mail, telephone and in person.

Jenko's report - 22nd July:
I hope you like the post-race reports, which go up on the site within 24 hours of any horse running and also the entry info., which includes a link to the respective racecourse. We have had a great response to the new site, all positive, keep them coming and as always I will respond to any questions either from current owners or anyone interested in our set-up here at Flint Cottage.
We had a great day at Nottingham last week and the 'Crazy Gang' were out in force. As Mark said on the 'News' page our owners do swell the crowds wherever we go, the turnout from the members is fantastic and it is what joining a syndicate is all about. Enjoying the social side of racing is a big side of the sport and we certainly seem to do that whatever happens on the track.

Dame Judi Dench, having opened the new hotel at Lingfield, joins the Locum members
Back to the horses, Locum has refused once or twice to go into the equine pool but, as we know, Mark usually gets his way in the end. When the Guv'nor and his helpers tried him again last week his character said no but with plenty of gentle persuasion and experience he eventually condescended to get his feet wet. This is not to say he is a fully paid up member of the swimming club but he can swim. He will have entries soon as the ground is what he likes. Fasette missed an engagement at Yarmouth due to the hard ground. It was not planned to run her but the race re-opened. Mark then declared her, in the hope of some rain and the opposition did not look up to much. No rain, so she was withdrawn and she will wait for some give underfoot, like many others in the yard at present. Captain Clint, Comrade Bond and Zenarinda missed entries this week due to the ground but are all in good shape and will be entered up in the near future. I look forward to meeting everyone on the racetrack soon.

Testimonials:
"I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute I have spent as a part of such a fantastic yard... a special thanks must go to you Mr Jenkins... you know your job and are always on hand to answer any questions."
"Saying that it was the best day of my life would be to understate how I felt, one or two people thought I was having a heart attack when he crossed the line in front. I was more in danger of that when we got on the champagne."

Syndicate open day
HOW WE OPERATE:
- All net prize-money won and the proceeds of any sale are divided proportionately between members.
- Our owners are welcome to visit the yard to see their horses in training on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- One complimentary owners' badge is guaranteed per member when your horse runs.
- There is no limit to the number of shares an individual, or group of people, can hold.
- Some members have been with us since the 1980s, which is testament in itself to the enjoyment these syndicates bring.
Once a twelfth share has been purchased, a monthly payment of £180 to be paid retrospectively (starting from December 1st 2010) is required to cover all keep costs. A discount of 10% is offered for a full year's payment in advance and a 5% discount on future purchases for anyone introducing a new owner.
There will be nothing more to pay, other than in exceptional circumstances such as travel to race abroad or unusual veterinary bills. The monthly payment covers basic training costs, entry fees, travel to meetings, jockey fees, farrier's charges etc.
It is the responsibility of each individual member to sell his or her share if they wish to leave the syndicate, although obviously we would help with this as far as possible. If payments are not received for two successive months the share will be deemed to have lapsed, and will be lost with no refund or prize share due.
Our aim at Flint Cottage is for every member to experience the joy of racehorse ownership:
- We run each syndicate with the personal touch
- Each member will be kept fully updated on the progress of their horse
- We strive to create a sense of involvement for everyone, not only in their own horse but also in the whole stable
We are constantly looking to put together new syndicates, so if you are interested in becoming involved, either in one of our present syndicates, or in the future, please contact:
Mike Jenkins, our syndicate manager, on 07774 784497 or e-mail him on
