Fortunes Maid this morning

REPORT BY JENKO - 22ND JULY

'Fortunes Maid travelled really well for much of the way at Windsor last week until another horse ducked across her and Jimmy could not get her back into contention. Mark said she has schooled nicely and will be having a spin over hurdles soon and let's just see what she makes of that.

'Our other runner Jacobite Prince probably paid the price for laying-up behind two very nice horses at Newmarket on Saturday; he looked like being placed a furlong out but faded up the hill. He was always going to be a three-year-old said Mark and will improve again from this probably on slightly easier ground.

Left to right: Locum and No Rules this morning

'Locum (pictured above) will have entries in the near future Mark is very happy with him, he continues to thrive and it is just a case of finding him the right opportunity.

'We thought that we had found a great opportunity for No Rules (pictured above) at Beverley but the ground conditions at the time of declaration were not what Mark wanted for him. He is in good form and the plan is still to run in a similar staying handicap on good ground or easier.

Creative this morning

'Creative has an entry at Thirsk on Friday back over a mile in a selling handicap. A drop in grade and a more positive ride is Mark's plan with him wherever he runs next and this should surely see him running a big race. We have had him in blinkers this morning, which sharpened him up.

'Four Miracles is in good form and Mark has pencilled in York as a possible at the weekend but ground conditions will be a big factor in his decision.

'And we are glad to report that Supera is going the right way doing daily canters, Mark says that this will be her programme for the next few weeks before he will consider stepping up her work.'

"Strong, attractive filly and half-sister to 5 winners, from a very fast family, she is now cantering well on the heath and showing plenty of promise. A real two-year-old type, she should give us a lot of fun in 2008!" (2008)

One of the pioneers of multiple ownership, Mark Tompkins is continuing his successful syndicates in 2008. One-twelfth shares in horses are available, and we keep things simple.

HOW WE OPERATE

  • All net prize-money won and the proceeds of any sale are divided proportionately between members.
  • Our owners are welcome to visit the yard to see their horses in training on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • One complimentary owners' badge is guaranteed per member when your horse runs.
  • There is no limit to the number of shares an individual, or group of people, can hold.
  • Some members have been with us since the 1980s which is testament in itself to the enjoyment these syndicates bring.

Once a twelfth share has been purchased, a monthly payment of £170 to be paid retrospectively (starting from January 1st 2008) is required to cover all keep costs. A discount of 10% is offered for a full year's payment in advance and a 5% discount on future purchases for anyone introducing a new owner.

There will be nothing more to pay, other than in exceptional circumstances such as travel to race abroad or unusual veterinary bills. The monthly payment covers basic training costs, insurance for original yearling purchase price (against mortality), entry fees, travel to meetings, jockey fees, farrier's charges etc.

It is the responsibility of each individual member to sell his or her share if they wish to leave the syndicate, although obviously we would help with this as far as possible. If payments are not received for two successive months the share will be deemed to have lapsed, and will be lost with no refund or prize share due.

We are a friendly lot at Flint Cottage Stables, and Mark is always approachable at the races or at home.
